Overview
Lake Tawakoni is a large water-supply reservoir in Northeast Texas operated within the Sabine River basin. Built for regional supply storage, the lake covers approximately 36,700 acres. It is managed by the Sabine River Authority of Texas primarily for municipal and industrial water supply, with recreation on the pool.
The basin presents broad open water, creek arms, points, and extensive shoreline flats characteristic of a large East Texas supply reservoir. Depth and bottom composition vary from shallower cove and flat habitats to deeper water toward the dam and riverine channels, creating a wide range of boating and fishing structure.
