Pymatuning Reservoir

The reservoir has about 106 miles of shoreline and a broad, shallow, marsh-influenced form. Its long north–south basin crosses the state line and drains south through the Shenango River. Expansive flats, marshy margins, and long open reaches create a character unlike Ohio's steep-walled Corps lakes, with wind, waterfowl habitat, and shallow structure defining much of the fishing and boating experience.

Pymatuning is widely known for walleye and muskie fishing as well as boating, camping, and wildlife observation. Access and regulations vary by state, so anglers should consult the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for Ohio waters and Pennsylvania DCNR or Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission guidance for Pennsylvania waters. Public ramps, campgrounds, and wildlife areas on both sides of the border serve day trips and longer stays on the same continuous pool.

The listed full pool is 1,008 feet above mean sea level. No geodetic vertical datum, separate winter target, or flood-pool value is assigned in the catalog; operators manage levels for the interstate reservoir and downstream Shenango River. Park and agency notices on both sides of the border remain important for current ramp access, shoreline conditions, and boating safety when wind or management changes affect the shallow basin.
