Overview
Leesville Lake is a 1,000-acre reservoir on McGuire Creek in Carroll County in eastern Ohio. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates it for flood risk management, with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District supporting recreation. McGuire Creek gives the reservoir a compact Carroll County setting, and the lake's management combines flood storage with an unusually strong reputation among Ohio anglers within the Muskingum system.
The lake has about 28 miles of shoreline and reaches about 47 feet deep. Wooded coves and a narrow creek-valley form make it a compact, sheltered Muskingum reservoir with more vertical relief than several nearby MWCD lakes. Timber, channel edges, and steep coves are central features for boaters and anglers, and the lake's smaller surface area concentrates fishing pressure into well-defined structure zones along McGuire Creek.
Leesville is particularly known as an Ohio muskie lake, while anglers also pursue bass, panfish, and other warmwater species. A 10-horsepower limit supports quiet fishing and boating, keeping fishing boats and paddlers predominant. Consult the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for regulations and current fishery guidance, and use MWCD access points for launching and shoreline facilities.
Its normal full pool is 963 feet NGVD29, with a winter pool near 958 feet. Seasonal storage and runoff can change shoreline, exposed timber, launch depth, and the position of fish along channel breaks. Monitoring current Corps and MWCD levels helps visitors anticipate ramp conditions, cove access, and dock usability during drawdown or after heavy McGuire Creek inflows.
