Overview
Piedmont Lake is a 2,270-acre reservoir on Stillwater Creek in eastern Ohio. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates the flood-control project with the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. Among the larger eastern Ohio MWCD waters, Piedmont provides flood-storage capacity on Stillwater Creek as well as a broad public recreation area set in a rolling, wooded creek valley.
It has about 38 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth near 38 feet. Tributary arms and wooded shoreline create a mix of shallow cover and open-water travel routes, while the old creek channel concentrates deeper water for boaters working points and breaks. Piedmont's scale places it between smaller quiet lakes such as Clendening and the larger regional hub at Seneca Lake within the same Muskingum system.
Boating, camping, and fishing are major uses, with a 10-horsepower limit preserving a lower-speed setting for fishing, paddling, camping, and wildlife observation. Anglers pursue bass, crappie, and other warmwater species, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources provides current fishery and access guidance for Ohio waters. MWCD access points serve the dispersed shoreline, supporting day trips and overnight stays without the high-speed traffic found on unlimited-horsepower lakes.
Levels use NGVD29: normal full pool is 913 feet and winter pool is near 905 feet. Corps operations retain flood-storage capacity and respond to Stillwater Creek runoff. Visitors should check conditions after rain because inflow can quickly change shoreline access, ramp depth, dock usability, and the fishable edges of shallow coves during both storage and drawdown periods.
