Overview
Lake Wallenpaupack is a 5,700-acre reservoir on Wallenpaupack Creek along the Pike–Wayne county line in Pennsylvania's northern Poconos. It was created in 1926 by Pennsylvania Power & Light for hydroelectric power and is now owned and operated by Brookfield Renewable as an auxiliary generating facility open to public recreation.
About 13 miles long with roughly 52 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth near 60 feet, Wallenpaupack is Pennsylvania's second-largest lake contained entirely within the state (after Raystown Lake). Wooded shores, islands, and a mix of residential and Brookfield-managed shoreline define the setting near Hawley.
The lake is a major Pocono destination for boating, water sports, camping, and fishing for walleye, bass, muskie, trout, and panfish. Access and regulations are coordinated with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission; Brookfield operates campgrounds and shoreline recreation sites.
Water levels are managed by Brookfield around a normal full pool near 1,187 feet above mean sea level for hydro operations and recreation. Monitoring current lake levels is helpful for boating, fishing, and dock access as generation and seasonal conditions move the pool.
