Overview
Skiatook Lake is a roughly 10,190-acre reservoir on Hominy Creek in Osage County, about four miles west of Skiatook and roughly 18 miles northwest of Tulsa. It is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control, water supply, water quality, recreation, and fish and wildlife; several Tulsa-area cities draw municipal water from the lake.
USACE water-quality summaries list about 182 miles of shoreline, a mean depth near 32 feet, and a maximum depth of about 88 feet. Blackjack oak hills and tallgrass prairie surround a deep, clear basin with rocky points and long creek arms that feel more highland than many plains reservoirs.
Skiatook is popular for largemouth and spotted bass, crappie, and catfish, with fisheries managed by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. Corps recreation areas, marinas, and public ramps serve the Tulsa metro and Osage County communities.
Water levels are managed by the Corps around a conservation pool of 714 feet above mean sea level (NGVD29), with flood-control storage to 729 feet. Hominy Creek runoff and water-supply demand both move the pool, so monitoring current lake levels helps with boating, fishing, and shoreline access.
