Overview
Skaneateles Lake is a natural lake in NY. It is managed by City of Syracuse / NYSDEC.
The basin is characterized by about 8,830 acres of surface area, a maximum depth near 300 feet. Shoreline and bottom character vary from protected coves and flats to deeper water, supporting a mix of open-water and nearshore habitats.
Skaneateles Lake supports recreational boating and fishing. Public access is through area ramps, parks, and shoreline facilities where provided by the operator. Fishing and boating regulations are set by the relevant state wildlife agency.
Skaneateles Lake is not operated to a classic reservoir full-pool curve. Where a gauge exists, water-surface elevation is the reference. Conditions still matter for boating, fishing access, and shoreline use.
