Overview
Lake Seed, also called Seed Lake, is a 240-acre reservoir on the Tallulah River in Rabun County, in the northeastern Georgia mountains. It is the second lake in Georgia Power's six-lake Tallulah River hydroelectric chain, formed in 1927 by the completion of Nacoochee Dam. The reservoir is owned by Georgia Power and operated for hydroelectric power generation.
Small and intimate, Seed has about 13 miles of winding, wooded shoreline tucked between Lake Burton just upstream and Lake Rabun below. Its narrow, river-like character and steep forested banks give it a quiet, secluded feel, and much of the surrounding land is leased residential property mixed with Georgia Power holdings.
Despite its size, Seed offers good fishing for largemouth and spotted bass, bream, and catfish, along with quiet boating and paddling. Fisheries are managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and a Georgia Power boat ramp provides public access to the lake.
Water levels on Lake Seed are managed by Georgia Power around a full pond near 1,752.5 feet above mean sea level. Because Seed is a small mid-chain reservoir, its elevation is closely tied to releases from Lake Burton above and generation at Nacoochee Dam, so monitoring current lake levels is helpful for boating, dock access, and shoreline activities.
