Salton Sea

The basin is characterized by about 216,000 acres of surface area, a maximum depth near 51 feet. Shoreline and bottom character vary from protected coves and flats to deeper water, supporting a mix of open-water and nearshore habitats.

Salton Sea supports recreational boating and fishing. Public access is through area ramps, parks, and shoreline facilities where provided by the operator. Fishing and boating regulations are set by the relevant state wildlife agency.

Salton Sea is not operated to a classic reservoir full-pool curve. Where a gauge exists, water-surface elevation is the reference. Conditions still matter for boating, fishing access, and shoreline use.
