Recommendations for Pleasant Hill Lake

Overview

Pleasant Hill Lake is an 850-acre reservoir on the Clear Fork of the Mohican River near Loudonville, at the edge of Ohio Amish Country. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District manage it for flood control and recreation. The rural travel destination combines Clear Fork flood-control storage with MWCD recreation lands in a compact valley setting popular with weekend visitors.

The lake has about 13 miles of shoreline and reaches roughly 54 feet deep. Although only 850 acres, Pleasant Hill has more depth and steeper banks than its size suggests, giving its narrow valley basin a distinctly different feel from broader, shallower Muskingum lakes such as Charles Mill. Wooded slopes, points, and the old Clear Fork channel define most of the fishable and navigable structure for both power boats and quieter craft.

Pleasant Hill accommodates boating, camping, swimming, and fishing, with no horsepower limit. Unlimited horsepower allows waterskiing and other active boating alongside fishing, camping, and paddling for bass, crappie, and other warmwater species. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources manages Ohio fishery programs and regulations, and the lake is a convenient stop for visitors exploring the Loudonville and Mohican area.

Levels are reported on NGVD29, with full pool at 1,020 feet and winter pool near 1,014 feet. The Corps and MWCD manage Clear Fork around that seasonal operating range to support flood storage and recreation. Monitoring the pool helps boaters anticipate ramp, dock, beach, and cove conditions during drawdown, after storms, or when seasonal targets change.

Current Conditions
