Recommendations for O.H Ivie

Overview

O.H. Ivie Reservoir is a roughly 19,150-acre lake at the confluence of the Colorado and Concho rivers in Concho, Coleman, and Runnels counties in West Central Texas. The dam was completed in the early 1990s and is operated by the Colorado River Municipal Water District (CRMWD) for municipal and industrial water supply for member cities, with recreation as a secondary purpose.

At conservation pool the lake has about 142 miles of shoreline, an average depth near 29 feet, and a maximum depth of about 119 feet. West Texas canyon and plains terrain, rocky points, river arms, and submerged structure create a scenic, relatively deep CRMWD reservoir when the pool is near full.

Ivie is known for largemouth bass, catfish, and open-water fishing, with fisheries managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Public parks, boat ramps, and lakeside facilities support recreation for San Angelo, Abilene, and surrounding communities.

Water levels are managed by CRMWD around a conservation pool of 1,551.5 feet above mean sea level (NGVD29), with an emergency spillway near 1,562 feet. Upstream CRMWD storage includes Lake J.B. Thomas. Elevations respond strongly to drought and municipal demand, so monitoring current lake levels is essential for boating, fishing, and shoreline access.
