Overview
Lake Marble Falls is a Highland Lakes pass-through reservoir on the Colorado River at Marble Falls, Texas, formed by Max Starcke Dam. It is operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority between Lake LBJ upstream and Lake Travis downstream. Though smaller than Travis or Buchanan, it is a central Hill Country recreation waterbody tied tightly to the city of Marble Falls.
The lake covers roughly 600 acres with a compact shoreline of about 31 miles. Limestone banks, urban waterfront, and a relatively short main-lake reach define its physical character. Depths vary from shallower shoreline shelves to deeper water along the river channel and near the dam.
Lake Marble Falls supports boating, water sports, and local fishing under Texas Parks and Wildlife Department rules. Public access is available through city and area ramps and parks in Marble Falls, with a strong shoreline recreation focus relative to its size.
Like other LCRA pass-through lakes, Marble Falls has little flood-storage capacity and is normally held within about a one-foot band near 736.2–737.0 feet mean sea level. Levels can rise sharply in floods and may be drawn down for maintenance. Current elevation remains useful for ramp and shoreline access even when day-to-day change is modest under routine operations.
