Overview
Lake Lewisville is a roughly 29,600-acre reservoir on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in Denton and Dallas counties, in the northern Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Lewisville Dam was completed in the 1950s and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District for flood risk management, water supply, and recreation.
The lake has about 233 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of about 67 feet. Urban and suburban shoreline, broad open-water flats, creek arms, and submerged channels create a busy metro reservoir with both developed waterfront and quieter coves on the upper ends.
Lewisville is one of North Texas's most heavily used lakes for boating, water sports, and fishing for largemouth bass, white bass, crappie, and catfish, with fisheries managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Corps parks, city parks, marinas, and public ramps provide extensive access around the reservoir.
Water levels are managed by the Corps around a conservation pool of 522 feet above mean sea level (NGVD29), with flood storage to 532 feet. Elevations respond quickly to Trinity basin storms and drought. Farther down the Trinity system, Lake Livingston is a major water-supply reservoir, so monitoring Lewisville levels remains important for metro boating, fishing, and dock access.
