Grenada Lake is a large Corps of Engineers flood-control reservoir at the edge of the Mississippi Delta near Grenada, formed on the Yalobusha and Skuna rivers as part of the Yazoo Headwater Project. The Vicksburg District operates the project for flood risk management, recreation, and related purposes; summer pool covers on the order of 35,000-36,000 acres within a much larger project boundary. The broader Grenada project boundary exceeds 90,000 acres of land and water managed for flood risk and public use.
With roughly 148 miles of shoreline, an average depth near 12 feet, and holes to about 70 feet, Grenada mixes open flats, timber, and river channels. Seasonal drawdowns expose broad mudflats that later flood as productive fish and waterfowl habitat. Moist-soil flats that green up on drawdown become key spring and summer fish habitat when the pool refills.
The lake is a well-known crappie and bass fishery managed by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, with Corps campgrounds, a visitor center, ramps, and hunting areas supporting year-round use. A Corps visitor center and overlook introduce the lake's flood-control story alongside ramps and campgrounds.
Water levels follow a Corps rule curve, with summer full pool near 215 feet NGVD29, winter pool near 193 feet, and flood pool to about 231 feet. Elevations can change quickly with Yazoo basin rainfall, so monitoring current lake levels matters for boating, fishing, and shoreline access - especially relative to sister reservoirs Enid and Sardis. Coordinated operation with Sardis, Enid, and Arkabutla means basin storms can lift several north Mississippi lakes together.
Grenada Lake is currently 5.1 feet below full pool and has fallen slightly over the past week.
