Overview
Cypress Bayou Lake (Cypress Bayou Reservoir) is a roughly 3,300-acre reservoir in Bossier Parish north of Shreveport–Bossier City, created when the Cypress Black Bayou Recreation and Water Conservation District flooded Cypress Bayou in the mid-1970s. The District also operates nearby Black Bayou Reservoir. The twin-lake system was built for irrigation, recreation, and municipal water needs in Bossier Parish.
Cypress is the larger of the two District lakes, with depths ranging from shallow flats of a few feet to more than 20 feet near the dam. Inflows arrive from Cypress Bayou, Little Caney Bayou, and White Oak Bayou, creating a mix of creek arms, open water, and developed shoreline within a short drive of the Shreveport metro area.
The lake supports boating, skiing, and fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, and bream, with fisheries managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Cypress Recreation Park on the western shore offers camping, boat ramps, a beach, and other day-use facilities that also serve Black Bayou Reservoir.
Water levels are managed by the District around a spillway crest / pool stage of 179.6 feet above mean sea level (NGVD29), with a flowage easement to about 187.5 feet. USGS monitors elevation at the lake, and levels can rise with heavy local rainfall, so checking current lake levels is important for boating, shoreline structures, and park access.
