Lake Corpus Christi

The basin combines open main-lake water with riverine reaches and protected shoreline indentations typical of a large South Texas supply reservoir. Depth and bottom character vary from shallower flats and cove margins to deeper water near the dam and river channels, giving boaters and anglers a mix of open-water and structure-oriented habitats. Its setting in the Nueces basin and role as a long-established regional supply lake define its physical character more than alpine or mountain-reservoir features.

Lake Corpus Christi supports recreational boating and a warmwater sport fishery. Anglers commonly pursue largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and white bass. Public access is available through area ramps, parks, and shoreline facilities around the Mathis vicinity, with fishing and boating regulations guided by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Pool elevations are managed for water-supply storage and system operations rather than a classic Corps flood-control guide curve alone. Published references include a conservation pool near 94 feet NGVD29 and a dead pool near 55.5 feet NGVD29. Inflows, municipal demand, and drought or wet-period hydrology move the surface elevation through that operating range.
