Bull Shoals Lake

At conservation pool the lake has about 821 miles of highly irregular shoreline, with steep rocky bluffs, long narrow creek arms, and deep open-water sections. Clear water, submerged timber, and sharply defined river and creek channels characterize much of the basin, while numerous coves and embayments transition into expansive main-lake areas shaped by surrounding Ozark terrain.

Bull Shoals supports a diverse Ozark reservoir fishery of largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass, plus crappie, walleye, and catfish, with fisheries managed cooperatively by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Missouri Department of Conservation. Corps parks, marinas, and public ramps on both sides of the state line draw heavy boating and fishing use, and cold-water releases below the dam support a noted White River trout fishery.

Water levels are managed by the Corps under a seasonal conservation-pool guide that targets about 659 feet NGVD29 in cooler months and rises into the low 660s in late spring and summer, with a flood-control pool extending to 695 feet. Because Bull Shoals is operated with Table Rock, Beaver, and Norfork in the White River system, elevations respond to basin rainfall and power generation, so monitoring current lake levels is important for boating, fishing, and dock access.
