Overview
Lake Bridgeport is a water-supply and flood-storage reservoir on the West Fork of the Trinity River in North Texas. Built for regional supply and flood management, the lake covers approximately 12,285 acres. It is managed by the Tarrant Regional Water District in coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, primarily for municipal water supply and flood control, with recreation on the pool.
The basin combines open main-lake water with creek arms, points, and shoreline indentations typical of a mid-to-large West Fork Trinity project. Depth and bottom character vary from shallower flats and cove margins to deeper water toward the dam and channel, giving boaters and anglers a mix of structure types. Its West Fork Trinity location and dual TRWD–Corps operating context shape both recreation patterns and pool management.
Lake Bridgeport supports recreational boating and sport fishing through public ramps, parks, and shoreline access around the lake. Fishing and boating regulations are guided by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Facilities around the reservoir provide regional access for North Texas visitors.
TRWD and Corps partners manage Bridgeport between a conservation pool near 836 feet and a flood pool near 851 feet. Rainfall, flood-storage operations, and water-supply needs move the surface through that band. Monitoring lake levels is important for ramp usability, fishing patterns, boating safety, and shoreline access as the pool shifts between conservation and flood storage.
