Recommendations for Lake Tohopekaliga

Overview

Lake Tohopekaliga (Lake Toho) is an approximately 18,800-acre Kissimmee Chain lake at Kissimmee in Osceola County, forming the upper end of the main stem toward Cypress, Hatchineha, and Kissimmee. Stages are regulated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District with the South Florida Water Management District. Major inflows include Shingle Creek and releases from East Lake Tohopekaliga; outflow moves south through the S-61 / C-35 Southport Canal into Cypress Lake.

Toho averages about 7 feet deep and reaches about 13 feet, with expansive littoral marshes, islands, and open water against a developed northwest shore at the City of Kissimmee. Habitat enhancement and vegetation management shape fishing structure across the shallow basin.

The lake is a world-class largemouth bass destination and a regular tournament venue, also producing crappie and panfish under Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission management. Public ramps, lakefront parks, and marinas provide extensive access for Central Florida boaters.

USACE operates Tohopekaliga on a regulation schedule that typically fluctuates between about 52 and 55 feet above mean sea level (NGVD29). Stages influence downstream Headwaters Revitalization Lakes and Kissimmee River restoration flows, so monitoring current lake levels is important for navigation, fishing, and dock access throughout the year.
