Overview
Mille Lacs Lake is one of Minnesota's largest inland lakes - about 132,500 acres - in east-central Minnesota north of the Twin Cities. It is a natural glacial lake renowned nationwide for walleye, with fisheries co-managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and tribal governments. The lake Ojibwe name and treaty fishery context remain central to modern harvest management debates. The lake is relatively shallow for its size (maximum depth about 42 feet, mean near 21 feet) with extensive rocky reefs, mud flats, and roughly 150 miles of shoreline.
