Recommendations for Glendo Reservoir

Overview

Glendo Reservoir is a Pick-Sloan North Platte River reservoir in southeastern Wyoming near the town of Glendo, completed in 1958 and operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for irrigation, hydropower, flood control, and recreation within Glendo State Park. Exclusive flood-control space above the conservation pool is a major authorized purpose of the Glendo Unit.

USBR recreation tables list about 12,365 water-surface acres and 78 miles of shoreline at full recreation pool, with hydraulic depth near 145 feet at the dam. Sandy beaches, rocky points, and rolling prairie shoreline make it one of Wyoming's busiest state-park lakes. Sandy Beach and other state-park shorelines are especially sensitive to mid-summer irrigation drafts.

Walleye, perch, and catfish are primary fishery targets under Wyoming Game and Fish regulations. Multiple state-park ramps, campgrounds, and a marina support heavy summer use. More than forty miles of non-motorized trails and multiple campgrounds make Glendo a multi-sport destination.

Top of active conservation is about 4,635 feet, with exclusive flood control extending to about 4,653 feet. The pool often fluctuates substantially through the irrigation season, so monitoring current lake levels is essential for beaches, ramps, and fishing. North Platte system operations link Glendo closely to upstream Pathfinder/Alcova releases and downstream demands.
