Overview
Canyon Lake is a roughly 8,300-acre reservoir on the Guadalupe River in Comal County, in the Texas Hill Country northwest of New Braunfels. Canyon Dam was completed in 1964 and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, with water-supply rights held by the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, for flood risk management, water supply, and recreation.
At conservation pool the lake has about 93 miles of shoreline, an average depth near 46 feet, and a maximum depth of about 125 feet. Clear Hill Country water, limestone bluffs, rocky points, and deep creek arms give Canyon a scenic, relatively deep character compared with many shallow Texas plains reservoirs.
Canyon is a major Central Texas destination for boating, scuba diving, camping, and fishing for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, and catfish, with fisheries managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Corps parks, marinas, and public ramps support heavy weekend use from San Antonio and Austin.
Water levels are managed by the Corps around a conservation pool of 909 feet above mean sea level (NGVD29), with flood storage / spillway crest at 943 feet. Elevations can rise quickly with Guadalupe basin floods and drop during drought and water-supply releases, so monitoring current lake levels is important for boating safety, fishing, and shoreline access.

Canyon Lake is currently 0.7 feet above full pool and has fallen slightly over the past week.
