Lake Alan Henry is a roughly 2,880-acre reservoir on the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River in Garza and Kent counties, about 60 miles southeast of Lubbock in the Texas Rolling Plains. John T. Montford Dam was completed in the early 1990s, and the lake is owned and operated by the City of Lubbock as a municipal water-supply reservoir with recreation as a secondary purpose.
At conservation pool the lake has about 45 miles of shoreline, an average depth near 40 feet, and a maximum depth of about 100 feet. Rolling plains topography, rocky points, creek arms, and submerged structure create a mix of open-water and cove habitat. Sand Creek and the Double Mountain Fork arms give the basin a branched layout that rewards careful navigation when levels drop.
Alan Henry is a popular West Texas destination for boating, camping, and fishing for largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and sunfish, with fisheries managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Public parks, boat ramps, and lakeside facilities around the reservoir support day use and overnight stays for visitors from Lubbock and the surrounding South Plains.
Water levels are managed by the City of Lubbock around a conservation pool of 2,220 feet above mean sea level (NGVD29), with an emergency spillway near 2,240 feet. Elevations respond to municipal demand, rainfall on the upper Brazos forks, and drought, so monitoring current lake levels is important for boating safety, fishing, and shoreline access throughout the year.
