At-a-glance
Lake Fork is a reservoir on Lake Fork Creek in northeast Texas, completed in the early 1980s and operated by the Sabine River Authority of Texas. At full pool it covers roughly 27,700 acres in the upper Sabine River basin. Built primarily for water supply, the lake quickly became one of the most influential bass fisheries in the state and a major recreational destination for East Texas.
The shoreline runs through piney woods country, with winding creek arms, shallow flats, and extensive submerged timber and brush that define much of the basin. Points, creek channels, and standing timber create highly structured habitat across the reservoir. Seasonal water-level changes expose additional cover and shift access to shallow structure throughout the lake.
Lake Fork is nationally known for trophy largemouth bass, supported by early Texas Parks and Wildlife stocking and sustained by strong habitat and forage. Crappie, catfish, and other sport species are also well established. The lake draws anglers from across the country and hosts major tournaments while continuing to serve regional water-supply needs.
